As a member of the APC/RTO team,share the accountability for the results of the team,particularly the delivery of APC/RTO benefits. The basic role has two key components; the identification,business justification,design and implementation of new APC strategies as well as the day-to-day support of existing APC strategies.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Identify unit operation constraints and reliability risks,and determine cost effective solutions. Conduct benefit and cost studies for yield shift,variability reduction and energy savings.
Design and implement APC for profitability,energy,stability and environmental improvements. The APC applications include but not limited to SMOCPro,RQEPro and data analysis.
Provide daily monitoring,troubleshooting and continuous performance improvement of APC to achieve maximum benefits.
Develop comprehensive KPI?s for APC,and ensure the KPI?s are regularly updated & reported.
Provide day-to-day technical support to operations for complex process and control issues.
Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure APC projects are adequately advocated and benefits are appropriately supported.
Design,modify and tune base layer controls relevant to APC and Advanced Applications.
Support RTO Engineer for the development and maintenance of Real-Time Optimization (RTO) and DataRec applications.
Incorporate relevant APC and Advanced Application information into operating procedures.
Work closely with the Process Engineering team to support management of the Process.
Work closely with the Instrument,Control and Electrical team to manage the DCS and control.
Work closely with Production team maintain unit performance and provide shutdown and start-up operational support as needed.
Provide control input to capital project development as needed.
Provide control support to ISU,T/A,HAZOP and risk assessments as needed.
Responsible for Operator training for APC and Advanced Applications.
Provide mentoring and training to junior APC engineers.
Requirements:
B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering or related areas. Ideal candidates typically have a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in APC.
Real-Time Optimization skill/experience is also strongly preferred but not mandatory.
Eligible to APEGGA Professional Engineer accreditation.
Solid hands-on experience with Model-Based Predictive Control system, preferably SMOC.
Minimum 5 years operating plant experience in the oil or chemical industry.
Minimum of skill level competency with at least one major DCS system, preferably Foxboro IA.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal relation skills.
Good collaboration and team working skills, with a keen ability to develop a good rapport with Process Operating teams.
Sound capability to work independently.
Can prioritize and manage expectations in the case of competing requests from stakeholders.
Language proficiency required: English.

Demonstrated evidence of enterprise first values and the behavioural imperatives will be taken into account during the selection process.
Implementation of APC strategies requires highly technical and detailed work (i.e. business case, process variable identification, variable interactions & pairing analysis, precise DCS skills, etc.) in addition to proper documentation and operator training.
